You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Chargers did exactly that with Blake Corum in the Round 2 slot.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Landing Ulofoshio that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 5 they get a difference-maker at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Blake Corum at the Round 2 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No drama and no debate, Mike Sainristil went about where he belonged in the 69th overall pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Value with a capital V on Dominick Puni in No. 105, a genuine coup. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A real head-scratcher, Jamari Thrash in the 110th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They reached into another round for AJ Barner, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Ty'Ron Hopper in the 181st overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
No edge and no loss on Nathan Thomas in Round 7, Pick 5; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Edefuan Ulofoshio at pick No. 253 is the proof. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
