Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cardinals were there to profit. Jalon Walker, the No. 25 name on the board, should have been long gone before the Round 3 slot. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
The cost of the Cross III reach is exactly the players who went right after him. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 14 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Benjamin Morrison in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A linebacker of that caliber at the 76th pick is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Howard Cross III at pick 115 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jaylin Noel at the 149th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
