Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Eagles spent slot 132 on Sam Hartman, a name most had 79 spots down the list. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Landing Jones that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup problem out wide. Exactly the need they had to hit.
You do not let a cornerback like Quinyon Mitchell reach No. 50 and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
By-the-book stuff, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at the 54th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
The board had cheaper options than Tykee Smith at pick No. 87, and it noticed. The roster fit checks out.
Good price on Bucky Irving in Round 3, Pick 34, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Braden Fiske slid further than he should have, and pick 99 is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A big swing on Sam Hartman at the 132nd overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A premium they did not need to pay, Drake Nugent a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Austin Booker in pick No. 174 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They took Jaylan Ford at par in slot 178, which is nothing to complain about. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Christian Jones at the 210th pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A need, and now a little less of one.
Steal is underselling it; Myles Jones at pick 243 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
