Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Eagles spent slot 132 on Sam Hartman, a name most had 79 spots down the list. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Landing Jones that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.28 · Pick 28 · Brian Thomas Jr. · WR · rank 27
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup problem out wide. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.18 · Pick 50 · Quinyon Mitchell · CB · rank 30
You do not let a cornerback like Quinyon Mitchell reach No. 50 and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R2.22 · Pick 54 · Jeremiah Trotter Jr. · LB · rank 61
By-the-book stuff, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at the 54th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Tykee Smith · S · rank 97
The board had cheaper options than Tykee Smith at pick No. 87, and it noticed. The roster fit checks out.
R3.34 · Pick 97 · Bucky Irving · RB · rank 93
Good price on Bucky Irving in Round 3, Pick 34, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.36 · Pick 99 · Braden Fiske · DL · rank 84
Braden Fiske slid further than he should have, and pick 99 is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.32 · Pick 132 · Sam Hartman · QB · rank 211
A big swing on Sam Hartman at the 132nd overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.1 · Pick 137 · Drake Nugent · C · rank 148
A premium they did not need to pay, Drake Nugent a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.38 · Pick 174 · Austin Booker · DL-EDGE · rank 159
Austin Booker in pick No. 174 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.3 · Pick 178 · Jaylan Ford · LB · rank 177
They took Jaylan Ford at par in slot 178, which is nothing to complain about. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R6.35 · Pick 210 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 197
Christian Jones at the 210th pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.23 · Pick 243 · Myles Jones · CB · rank 214
Steal is underselling it; Myles Jones at pick 243 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
