After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Walker. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The kind of weekend a front office frames and hangs on the wall.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th pick they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
In pick No. 9 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In the 15th overall pick they get a building block for the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Brian Thomas Jr. is a better player than the Round 2 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at pick 47 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Good price on Kamren Kinchens in No. 67, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They jumped the gun on Dominick Puni, taking him earlier than his grade liked. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Devontez Walker in slot 107 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board fumbled Ray Davis all the way to pick 139, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
They barely believed it either: Johnny Wilson still on the board at Round 5, Pick 16. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
