New York Jets

Best value of the weekend goes to the Jets for Hall: A-.

The trade table was a mismatch, and the Jets were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.

Hall falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

The Styles pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher and safety still on the board.

In the end it comes back to Arvell Reese, and a haul good enough to build on right away.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Arvell Reese · LB · rank 7
A clean, defensible pick in Round 1, Pick 12 with a little surplus value in Arvell Reese. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R1.16 · Pick 16 · Jermod McCoy · CB · rank 18
In No. 16 they get a press-man option on the boundary. The biggest hole, addressed.
R1.20 · Pick 20 · Olaivavega Ioane · OG · rank 22
In slot 20 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
R2.1 · Pick 33 · Sonny Styles · LB · rank 21
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went linebacker with Sonny Styles while clear needs at edge rusher and safety sat open.
R2.30 · Pick 62 · Jake Slaughter · C · rank 55
Jake Slaughter at pick No. 62 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It fills a real need, too.
R4.3 · Pick 103 · Skyler Bell · WR · rank 89
Skyler Bell at pick 103 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.40 · Pick 140 · Chris McClellan · DT · rank 141
By-the-book stuff, Chris McClellan at pick No. 140 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.39 · Pick 179 · Taylen Green · QB · rank 185
Taylen Green in Round 5, Pick 39 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.12 · Pick 228 · Terion Stewart · RB · rank 231
They took Terion Stewart at par in the 228th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.26 · Pick 242 · TJ Hall · CB · rank 216
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, TJ Hall in No. 242, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
