Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Cowboys spent pick No. 150 on Nick Martin, a name the board had a full 111 spots lower. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
However the rest shakes out, Mafah at that price is a win they earned. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th pick they get a lead back with juice, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
They paid sticker price for Azareye'h Thomas in the 55th overall pick, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
By-the-book stuff, Omarr Norman-Lott at the Round 3 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
No edge and no loss on Tez Johnson in No. 86; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Nick Martin well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Value said wait; Kitan Crawford in slot 170 says they were not listening. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Chase Lundt in pick 172 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A wild overpay on Jacob Parrish in the Round 5 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Connor Colby slid further than he should have, and the 190th overall pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Phil Mafah at the 211th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jimmy Horn Jr. at Round 7, Pick 31 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
