When the story of this class is written, it opens with Willie Roberts at No. 250, a reach of 41 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The Anthony value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
The verdict is a shrug for now, with the swing picks left to write the real ending.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Kingsley Suamataia at pick No. 47 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Ja'Tavion Sanders in pick 48 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They took Payton Wilson at par in the 64th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid up for Braden Fiske at slot 70 when waiting would have done the job. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A conviction pick on Marshawn Kneeland at No. 95 that the board grades a round light. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Logan Lee. It fills a real need, too.
Cody Schrader at Round 5, Pick 22 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Daijahn Anthony is a better player than pick No. 210 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Value said wait; Willie Roberts in slot 250 says they were not listening. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
