The trade table was where it all came apart. The Dolphins shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. It grades a D, and the process earned it.
The Means pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. However the rest shakes out, Hopper at that price is a win they earned.
The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 26 they get a building block for the line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
They paid up for Bralen Trice at slot 55 when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
DeWayne Carter in the Round 3 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Chau Smith-Wade at No. 125 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Kitan Oladapo at pick 158 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Ty'Ron Hopper at the 198th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A slide stopped in Round 6, Pick 39, with Kendall Milton worth more than the price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Drake Nugent slipping to the 221st pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A need, and now a little less of one.
A big swing on Bub Means at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
