The one they had to fix is still broken. The Chiefs left quarterback untouched, and that omission hangs over an otherwise reasonable haul.
They banked enough surplus on Hopper to cover a lot of smaller sins. The Smith-Wade pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 24 they get a weapon on the perimeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Javon Bullard at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They paid sticker price for Dominick Puni in the 95th overall pick, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid up for Jaheim Bell at slot 133 when waiting would have done the job. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A conviction pick on Chau Smith-Wade at the 158th pick that the board grades a round light. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ty'Ron Hopper in No. 172. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Rasheen Ali in Round 6, Pick 35 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board had cheaper options than Matthew Jones at pick No. 250, and it noticed. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
