Green Bay Packers

A solid, sensible weekend for the Packers: B-.

The Tahj Washington pick is the one that will follow the Packers into the fall. They took him 145 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

It is not that Solomon is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.

They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Quinyon Mitchell · CB · rank 33
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a sticky cover corner, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 52
They paid a round early for Jackson Powers-Johnson in the 41st pick, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 70
Payton Wilson at the 57th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A minor itch, scratched.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Javon Solomon · OLB-EDGE · rank 108
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback and interior defensive lineman to take Javon Solomon, an OLB-EDGE that was not the priority.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Ray Davis · RB · rank 109
This one needs a full-page explanation: Ray Davis in the Round 3 slot, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Ben Sinnott · TE · rank 143
Ben Sinnott at pick No. 125 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Keith Randolph Jr. · DL-EDGE · rank 154
They talked themselves into Keith Randolph Jr. at slot 135, and the board did not agree. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.28 · Pick 203 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 197
A tidy little value on Christian Jones in No. 203, a step better than break-even. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R6.42 · Pick 217 · Tahj Washington · WR · rank 362
A real head-scratcher, Tahj Washington in Round 6, Pick 42 is miles ahead of his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Jalen Green · S · rank 212
They did well to land Jalen Green in the 219th pick, just ahead of his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R7.26 · Pick 246 · Xavier Thomas · DE-EDGE · rank 255
A reach for Xavier Thomas in pick 246; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
