The trade table was where it all came apart. The Chiefs shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.
For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. However the rest shakes out, Smith at that price is a win they earned. They will need Lovett to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a difference-maker at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They took T.J. Tampa at par in the 42nd pick, which is nothing to complain about. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kiran Amegadjie. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Javon Baker at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They liked Fabien Lovett enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 133. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tykee Smith in the 158th overall pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They did well to land Dillon Johnson in pick 172, just ahead of his grade. The roster fit checks out.
