You can usually follow a front office's logic. This one is harder. The Packers spent Round 4, Pick 35 on Malik Mustapha while edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots sat unaddressed. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
Cohen has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
On value alone, Rourke makes the weekend a net positive. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on T.J. Tampa. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid a round early for Javon Bullard in No. 57, more than the board wanted. A minor need, but a need all the same.
By-the-book stuff, Bucky Irving at pick 88 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Khyree Jackson at the 92nd pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Javion Cohen in the 125th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A curious use of Round 4, Pick 35. Edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots needed the pick; a safety in Malik Mustapha did not.
Jawhar Jordan at pick No. 203 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 217 with a little surplus value in Kingsley Eguakun. The roster fit checks out.
No drama and no debate, Steele Chambers went about where he belonged in the 219th pick. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
The board had Kurtis Rourke higher than the Round 7 slot, and the quarterback fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
