The De'Corian Clark pick is the one that will follow the Texans into the fall. They took him 36 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. Leaving offensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Watson.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 23rd pick they get a double-digit-sack hope at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
In the 24th overall pick they get a potential shutdown corner. More want than need.
No drama and no debate, Chop Robinson went about where he belonged in pick 33. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Payton Wilson in slot 59 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Leonard Taylor III in pick No. 85 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They jumped the gun on Malik Mustapha, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A minor itch, scratched.
They took Will Shipley at par in No. 127, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Value said wait; De'Corian Clark in the 164th pick says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nice patience on Blake Watson, who had no business lasting to slot 239. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Tanner McLachlan at pick 248 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
