Green Bay Packers

No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Packers.

Nobody had Dillon Johnson this high, and it is not close. The Packers reached 27 spots to get him at Round 3, Pick 28.

The Eichenberg pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at cornerback, quarterback and other spots. The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.31 · Pick 31 · Tyler Nubin · S · rank 29
In the Round 1 slot they get a two-high chess piece. More want than need.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Kris Jenkins · DL-EDGE · rank 45
Kris Jenkins in the 41st pick is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Kiran Amegadjie · OT · rank 52
Fair-plus on Kiran Amegadjie, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R2.31 · Pick 63 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 70
They paid sticker price for Payton Wilson in pick 63, and that is fine. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Zak Zinter · OG · rank 95
They took Zak Zinter at par in Round 3, Pick 25, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Dillon Johnson · RB · rank 118
This one needs a full-page explanation: Dillon Johnson in the 91st overall pick, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Tommy Eichenberg · LB · rank 127
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Tommy Eichenberg at linebacker with cornerback, quarterback and other spots open.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · James Williams · S · rank 134
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, James Williams adds a safety and leaves cornerback, quarterback and other spots untouched.
