For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Commanders walked out of the weekend still thin at tight end, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons.
That Watson pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 2 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No drama and no debate, Jordan Morgan went about where he belonged in pick 36. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Chris Braswell in Round 2, Pick 8 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A straight-up fair deal on Christian Haynes at the 67th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Brandon Dorlus at the 78th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No edge and no loss on Cam Hart in slot 100; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Christian Jones in the Round 5 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They did well to land Tommy Eichenberg in pick No. 152, just ahead of his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Nathaniel Watson at the Round 7 slot is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
