Green Bay Packers

The Packers cashed the board's mistake on McCoy: B.

The Packers ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

The McCoy value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Every board in the league had Benson lower, and that gap is the story.

The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Packers indulged a want in Colson while a need in quarterback, tight end and other spots stayed open.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Tyler Nubin · S · rank 30
In No. 25 they get an enforcer at safety. Need was not the driver here.
R2.23 · Pick 55 · Kiran Amegadjie · OT · rank 55
No edge and no loss on Kiran Amegadjie in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 61
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Edgerrin Cooper. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R2.27 · Pick 59 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 80
Value said wait; Trey Benson in pick 59 says they were not listening. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.23 · Pick 86 · Caelen Carson · CB · rank 66
A cornerback of that caliber at slot 86 is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.34 · Pick 97 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 105
Braelon Allen at the 97th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.9 · Pick 109 · Junior Colson · LB · rank 114
A surprising call. With quarterback, tight end and other spots still to address, they spent Round 4, Pick 9 on Junior Colson, a linebacker they were not short of.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 120
Good price on Khyree Jackson in the 125th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Beaux Limmer · C · rank 134
Beaux Limmer at slot 126 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It fills a real need, too.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Shemar Turner · DL-EDGE · rank 137
Shemar Turner at the Round 4 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R6.28 · Pick 203 · Zion Nelson · OT · rank 209
A straight-up fair deal on Zion Nelson at the 203rd pick, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.35 · Pick 210 · Bru McCoy · WR · rank 187
Bru McCoy in pick 210 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R6.42 · Pick 217 · Matthew Jones · OG · rank 233
They paid up for Matthew Jones at pick No. 217 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
