Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Dolphins were there to profit. James Williams, the No. 134 name on the board, should have been long gone before the Round 5 slot. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Tyler Guyton at par in the 41st overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A slide stopped in pick 53, with T.J. Tampa worth more than the price. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Gabriel Murphy at slot 88 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Davis. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Taking James Williams in pick No. 158 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Steal is underselling it; LaDarius Henderson at the Round 6 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They barely believed it either: Javon Baker still on the board at No. 199. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and J.J. Weaver at the 242nd pick is the proof. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
