Somebody in the 169th pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Packers sat still while Javon Foster, the No. 119 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
They will need Logue to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
Olumuyiwa Fashanu slid further than he should have, and No. 25 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Cooper DeJean in the 41st overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Xavier Legette at Round 2, Pick 26 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jaylen Wright slipping to pick No. 88 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Taking Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the 91st pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It adds depth where they could use a little.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kitan Oladapo. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Javon Foster in slot 169 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They liked Drake Nugent enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 202. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Evan Williams in Round 6, Pick 44 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Steele Chambers in pick 245 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
They reached into another round for Zion Logue, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
