Thirty-one other rooms let Matt Goncalves slide, and the Packers were the ones holding the card at pick No. 202. Highway robbery. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They are betting Wallace proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the Round 1 slot is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid up for T.J. Tampa at the 41st overall pick when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They robbed the room for Graham Barton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A need, and now a little less of one.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Trey Benson in Round 3, Pick 25. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They read the board right and Dadrion Taylor-Demerson was the payoff at No. 91. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Trevin Wallace well ahead of where he belonged. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Somehow Kitan Oladapo was still sitting there in pick No. 169, and they pounced on premier safety value. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Steal is underselling it; Matt Goncalves at slot 202 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
Jordan Magee in pick No. 219 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
They will replay Blake Watson at Round 7, Pick 25 for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Myles Harden in slot 255 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
