The war room fell hard for Javon Foster, and it showed at pick 91: 28 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Jacobs. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a lockdown presence outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jackson Powers-Johnson at the Round 2 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Edgerrin Cooper at the 58th pick is the proof. A minor itch, scratched.
They did well to land Jaden Hicks in pick No. 88, just ahead of his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A big swing on Javon Foster at the 91st overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. The roster fit checks out.
Mason McCormick at pick 126 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kitan Oladapo in the 169th overall pick. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Garret Greenfield in pick No. 202 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Curtis Jacobs at Round 6, Pick 44 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
A reach for Rasheen Ali in No. 245; a little patience would have been rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Bub Means is a better player than pick 255 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
