The trade table was a mismatch, and the Cowboys were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.
They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it. The Bethune steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Adding Michael Wilson by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 27 they get a cornerstone up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Nothing to complain about; Payton Wilson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They took Blake Corum at par in the 87th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Kris Abrams-Draine at No. 90 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Leonard Taylor III at the Round 4 slot is the proof. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A clean, defensible pick in the 138th pick with a little surplus value in Christian Jones. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Trey Knox in Round 7, Pick 13. A need, and now a little less of one.
A slide stopped in pick 244, with Tatum Bethune worth more than the price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
