The Packers torched the value chart for Josh Proctor, taking him 25 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
The Morgan pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They paid up for Edgerrin Cooper at the 41st pick when waiting would have done the job. A minor itch, scratched.
Taking Jordan Morgan in Round 2, Pick 26 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Cole Bishop in the Round 3 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A straight-up fair deal on Dominick Puni at pick 91, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Isaac Guerendo in pick No. 126 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Tanor Bortolini this early at the Round 5 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No drama and no debate, Jaylan Ford went about where he belonged in the 202nd pick. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
They talked themselves into Josh Proctor at the 219th overall pick, and the board did not agree. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
