Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Ravens were there to profit. Deion Burks, the No. 86 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 121.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
The board had Arvell Reese higher than No. 19, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
In the 23rd overall pick they get a blindside protector. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Nice patience on Logan Jones, who had no business lasting to Round 4, Pick 2. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jalon Kilgore in the Round 4 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Deion Burks at the 121st pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A tight end of that caliber at slot 154 is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
By-the-book stuff, Kage Casey at pick 162 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A slide stopped in pick No. 198, with Jeff Caldwell worth more than the price. The roster fit checks out.
Alan Herron at the 250th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
