You can draft well and still miss the point. The Patriots did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to interior defensive lineman, which was the need that mattered most.
On the needs board they went 2 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 31st overall pick they get a go-to option on the outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
By-the-book stuff, LT Overton at pick No. 63 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
