The Texans lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D+.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through offensive lineman. Reaching for Wilson left real value on the table behind him. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a premier pass rusher, even if it was a touch early. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In pick 28 they get an anchor for the defensive front at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Xavier Legette at the 53rd overall pick is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid up for Payton Wilson at slot 60 when waiting would have done the job. The roster fit checks out.
Trey Benson in the 88th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Fair-plus on Malachi Corley, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A straight-up fair deal on Kris Abrams-Draine at pick No. 121, value and slot in agreement. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Ty'Ron Hopper at No. 158 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Blake Watson in pick 239 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
