If confidence were a draft strategy, the Texans would have aced it. Jared Wiley at slot 163 is 33 spots clear of where he belonged.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The Smith pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.
