This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Troy Franklin, the No. 24 name on the board, stolen at the 59th pick. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 23 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In the 24th overall pick they get a potential shutdown corner. Need was not the driver here.
In No. 25 they get a premier pass rusher at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
The board fumbled Troy Franklin all the way to the Round 2 slot, and they scooped it up. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They read the board right and Payton Wilson was the payoff at Round 3, Pick 22. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Malik Mustapha at the 123rd pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They went early on Jaheim Bell in slot 127, and the value did not follow. It fills a real need, too.
Nice patience on Braelon Allen, who had no business lasting to pick 164. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Phil Jurkovec slipping to the Round 7 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Aaron Frost in the 248th overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
