The rest of the league will want that one back. Keon Coleman tumbling to the Texans in the Round 2 slot is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They are betting McLachlan proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
They will regret leaving offensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 23 they get an island corner at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
In No. 24 they get a disruptor off the edge, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A big swing on T'Vondre Sweat at pick No. 33, well ahead of any board in the building. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Somehow Keon Coleman was still sitting there in the 59th pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Marist Liufau in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A premium they did not need to pay, Malik Mustapha a notch or two before his time. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A reach for Jaheim Bell in Round 4, Pick 27; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Will Shipley in pick 164 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They reached a country mile for Tanner McLachlan at the 239th pick, and the board is aghast. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Blake Watson at slot 248 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
