The board owed the Dolphins one, and it paid up: Kitan Oladapo, the No. 154 name on the board, sitting there at pick No. 184 like a gift left on the doorstep. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. The trade work was a quiet net positive. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
Value with a capital V on Graham Barton in pick No. 35, a genuine coup. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, T'Vondre Sweat at slot 55. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Sedrick Van Pran in the 71st overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Theo Johnson in pick 128 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The roster fit checks out.
They took Beau Brade at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Fair-plus on Kalen King, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They read the board right and Luke McCaffrey was the payoff at Round 5, Pick 22. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Trevor Keegan in No. 162 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Somehow Kitan Oladapo was still sitting there in Round 6, Pick 9, and they pounced on premier safety value. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Cornelius Johnson at the 198th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board had Trevin Wallace higher than the 241st overall pick, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
