The rest of the league had time to spare on Oluwafemi Oladejo; the Patriots did not wait, grabbing him 32 spots ahead at Round 4, Pick 4.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Noel. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 4 they get a three-down runner. A clean fit for the roster.
Aireontae Ersery at pick 38 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jayden Higgins at the 69th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Terrance Ferguson in slot 83 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Oluwafemi Oladejo well ahead of where he belonged. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jaylin Noel at pick No. 123 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Somehow Emery Jones Jr. was still sitting there in Round 5, Pick 6, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Craig Woodson in the 217th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Value said wait; Shemar James in pick 220 says they were not listening. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They robbed the room for Simeon Barrow Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
