The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Packers watched Cam Skattebo slide 86 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 23rd overall pick they get a centerfielder for the defense. Need was not the driver here.
A linebacker of that caliber at No. 54 is the definition of value, full stop. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Jake Majors in Round 3, Pick 23 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Maxwell Hairston in the Round 4 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They will replay Smael Mondon Jr. at pick 158 for years; that is how good the value is. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Cam Skattebo at the 196th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Good price on Roc Taylor in pick No. 237, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A straight-up fair deal on Nick Nash at slot 250, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
