Everything else got attention, and running back got none. That is a strange way for the Bears to leave a draft.
The Wetjen pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The cost of the Jacas reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
They went early on Gabe Jacas in the 40th pick, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 57 with a little surplus value in A.J. Haulcy. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Christen Miller in the 60th overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Jacob Rodriguez at Round 3, Pick 10 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
They paid sticker price for Parker Brailsford in pick 129, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They took Charles Demmings at par in slot 148, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Taking Kaden Wetjen in slot 239 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No edge and no loss on Luke Altmyer in the Round 7 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
