Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens let Dixon fall and pounced. Final grade: A-.

The trade table was a mismatch, and the Ravens were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. They executed a plan and it shows in the A-.

However the rest shakes out, Dixon at that price is a win they earned. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. If Caldwell pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.

Trust the process, because this time the process plainly worked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.23 · Pick 23 · Olaivavega Ioane · OG · rank 19
Olaivavega Ioane at No. 23 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Joshua Josephs · DE-EDGE · rank 45
They took Joshua Josephs at par in pick 38, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Christen Miller · DL · rank 59
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Christen Miller at Round 3, Pick 4. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.16 · Pick 80 · Elijah Sarratt · WR · rank 77
A clean, defensible pick in the 80th pick with a little surplus value in Elijah Sarratt. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.18 · Pick 82 · Jake Slaughter · C · rank 58
Jake Slaughter at pick No. 82 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.24 · Pick 88 · Skyler Bell · WR · rank 86
A straight-up fair deal on Skyler Bell at the 88th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.24 · Pick 124 · Jack Endries · TE · rank 122
No edge and no loss on Jack Endries in the 124th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.4 · Pick 144 · Charles Demmings · CB · rank 150
By-the-book stuff, Charles Demmings at No. 144 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.4 · Pick 185 · Jeff Caldwell · WR · rank 193
They went early on Jeff Caldwell in slot 185, and the value did not follow. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.37 · Pick 253 · Thaddeus Dixon · CB · rank 228
Thaddeus Dixon in pick 253 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
