Somebody in the 151st pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Dolphins sat still while Garrett Nussmeier, the No. 81 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
In No. 30 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
A safety of that caliber at slot 43 is the definition of value, full stop. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Somehow Zion Young was still sitting there in Round 3, Pick 11, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Colton Hood at pick No. 87 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
You do not let a wide receiver like Chris Bell reach pick 90 and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A slide stopped in the Round 3 slot, with Keylan Rutledge worth more than the price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Oscar Delp. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Garrett Nussmeier at pick No. 151 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Kaleb Elarms-Orr in the 227th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Dane Key in slot 238 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
