Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
The Dial reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The Guerendo pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
A straight-up fair deal on Drake Maye at the 4th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Chris Braswell at the 27th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A conviction pick on Xavier Legette at slot 42 that the board grades a round light. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They barely believed it either: Jackson Powers-Johnson still on the board at pick 68. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A wild overpay on Jalyx Hunt in No. 90, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They reached a country mile for Caedan Wallace at pick No. 103, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
You do not let a safety like Cole Bishop reach Round 4, Pick 10 and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Isaac Guerendo in the Round 6 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Somehow AJ Barner was still sitting there in Round 6, Pick 18, and they pounced on premier tight end value. A need, and now a little less of one.
A big swing on Marcellas Dial at slot 231, well ahead of any board in the building. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
