You can draft well and still miss the point. The Chiefs did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to quarterback, which was the need that mattered most. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Walker. Reaching for Rouse left real value on the table behind him.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher at fair value.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ja'Lynn Polk. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Devontez Walker in the 95th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jared Wiley at pick No. 131 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reach on Walter Rouse in the 159th pick; the board had better options right there. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No drama and no debate, Decamerion Richardson went about where he belonged in slot 173. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Fair-plus on Jaylan Ford, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
