You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Packers did exactly that with Jacob Dobbs in the 245th pick. The bottom line is a respectable B.

Landing Murphy II that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.27 · Pick 27 · Graham Barton · OT · rank 24
In pick 27 they get protection for the quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.7 · Pick 39 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 55
The board had cheaper options than Cooper Beebe at the Round 2 slot, and it noticed. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Cooper DeJean · CB · rank 60
A straight-up fair deal on Cooper DeJean at the 57th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.11 · Pick 75 · Marist Liufau · LB · rank 83
A reach on Marist Liufau in Round 3, Pick 11; the board had better options right there. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R3.18 · Pick 82 · Max Melton · CB · rank 118
They left a pile of value on the table to take Max Melton this early at pick No. 82. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.20 · Pick 84 · Will Shipley · RB · rank 100
They went early on Will Shipley in the 84th pick, and the value did not follow. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Byron Murphy II · DL · rank 67
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Byron Murphy II in pick 87, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.11 · Pick 111 · Cole Bishop · S · rank 154
They reached into another round for Cole Bishop, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R4.23 · Pick 123 · Ben Sinnott · TE · rank 160
Ben Sinnott at Round 4, Pick 23 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Dylan Laube · RB · rank 143
They jumped the gun on Dylan Laube, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.25 · Pick 161 · Joshua Gray · OT · rank 238
They reached a country mile for Joshua Gray at the 161st pick, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.37 · Pick 173 · Ricky Pearsall · WR · rank 200
A big swing on Ricky Pearsall at the 173rd overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
R6.14 · Pick 189 · Carson Steele · RB · rank 294
Carson Steele at pick No. 189 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R6.42 · Pick 217 · Willie Roberts · CB · rank 206
Willie Roberts at No. 217 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Cal Haladay · LB · rank 305
Value said wait; Cal Haladay in slot 219 says they were not listening. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
R7.12 · Pick 232 · Xavier Thomas · DE-EDGE · rank 264
They talked themselves into Xavier Thomas at pick No. 232, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Jacob Dobbs · LB · rank 406
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jacob Dobbs well ahead of where he belonged. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
