If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Commanders, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend.
Cole has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Landing Hart that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
The Commanders indulged a want in Solomon while a need in tight end, quarterback and other spots stayed open.
Bottom line, with Rome Odunze leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Rome Odunze in slot 12, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jordan Morgan is a better player than the 36th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They did well to land Troy Fautanu in pick 37, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No drama and no debate, Brenden Rice went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Khyree Jackson at Round 3, Pick 37 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 102nd pick on Javon Solomon with tight end, quarterback and other spots unsolved.
No edge and no loss on Beau Brade in pick No. 111; it is a wash and a sensible one. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Cam Hart slipping to No. 149 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A tidy bit of business in No. 181, where Frank Gore Jr. graded well above the range. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Myles Cole in the Round 7 slot, miles early. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
