The board owed the Packers one, and it paid up: Myles Harden, the No. 209 name on the board, sitting there at the 255th pick like a gift left on the doorstep. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
The Packers indulged a want in Trotter Jr. while a need in edge rusher, quarterback and other spots stayed open. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Every board in the league had Wright lower, and that gap is the story.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value.
A reach on Edgerrin Cooper in the 41st pick; the board had better options right there. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jaylen Wright a notch or two before his time. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A surprising call. With edge rusher, quarterback and other spots still to address, they spent No. 88 on Jeremiah Trotter Jr., a linebacker they were not short of.
Jaden Hicks at pick 91 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Zak Zinter in the 126th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
No edge and no loss on Kamal Hadden in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A slide stopped in slot 202, with Trente Jones worth more than the price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Value with a capital V on Ryan Flournoy in pick 219, a genuine coup. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They will replay Tanner McLachlan at the Round 7 slot for years; that is how good the value is. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
