For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Giants walked out of the weekend still thin at interior defensive lineman, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons.
Getting Newton where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Reaching for Ratledge left real value on the table behind him. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 5 they get a matchup problem out wide. The biggest hole, addressed.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Graham Barton at pick No. 37. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Josh Newton in Round 2, Pick 22, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
They let Kingsley Suamataia come to them and pounced at the Round 3 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They liked Tate Ratledge enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 105. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
