Somebody in the 225th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Commanders sat still while Dorian Singer, the No. 176 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
If Stover pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 6 they get an anchor for the offensive line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Troy Fautanu. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reach for Cooper Beebe in the 38th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They let Jonah Elliss come to them and pounced at Round 2, Pick 29. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Kamren Kinchens at pick 68 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Marist Liufau at No. 80 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Value said wait; Cade Stover in the Round 3 slot says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board had cheaper options than Donovan Jackson at the 104th overall pick, and it noticed. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 5 slot, where Mohamed Kamara graded well above the range. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board fumbled Zy Alexander all the way to No. 182, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Dorian Singer at pick No. 225 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Luke Reimer at pick 237 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
