The Lions clearly saw something nobody else did in Cody Schrader, taking him 125 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want.
Landing Barrett that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
The verdict is harsh because the weekend was, and there is little to argue.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 29 they get a lead back with juice, though the board says they badly overpaid. A clean fit for the roster.
A big swing on Blake Corum at Round 2, Pick 29, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A wild overpay on Trey Benson in the Round 3 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They liked Braelon Allen enough to skip the value, taking him in the 92nd overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
A premium they did not need to pay, Isaac Guerendo a notch or two before his time. A need, and now a little less of one.
Value said wait; Rasheen Ali in pick No. 207 says they were not listening. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Somehow Michael Barrett was still sitting there in slot 247, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
