You can usually follow a front office's logic. This one is harder. The Cowboys spent pick No. 125 on Darius Robinson while wide receiver, cornerback and other spots sat unaddressed.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Benson. The McMahon reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Tyler Guyton in No. 56 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Brandon Dorlus in Round 3, Pick 9. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Trey Benson in pick No. 87 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A straight-up fair deal on Zak Zinter at pick 89, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They bypassed pressing needs at wide receiver, cornerback and other spots to take Darius Robinson, an edge rusher that was not the priority.
They did well to land LaDarius Henderson in slot 173, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Omar Speights in the 213th overall pick, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Dylan McMahon in No. 242 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
