There is a lot to like until you notice tight end is still a hole. The Chiefs never got to the one that mattered most. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
Getting Smith where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Xavier Legette at the 32nd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No drama and no debate, Patrick Paul went about where he belonged in the 64th pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Trey Benson slid further than he should have, and pick 95 is lovely value for the running back. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jarrian Jones in slot 132 is fair value, right on his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Walter Rouse in Round 5, Pick 23 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tykee Smith at pick No. 173. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kimani Vidal. The roster fit checks out.
