The Dylan McMahon pick is the one that will follow the Cowboys into the fall. They took him 46 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Kinchens.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Kamren Kinchens slipping to pick 37 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Kingsley Suamataia at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Jalen McMillan at par in slot 87, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 118, where Donovan Edwards graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
They jumped the gun on Tommy Eichenberg, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Good price on Chau Smith-Wade in Round 5, Pick 38, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Dylan McMahon this early at Round 6, Pick 42. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A big swing on Zion Logue at pick No. 245, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They went early on Matthew Jones in the 246th overall pick, and the value did not follow. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
