It is the swing that defines the weekend: Taulia Tagovailoa in No. 198, a good 89 spots before the room expected him. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Gore Jr. value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get a problem off the edge, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A straight-up fair deal on Braden Fiske at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They took Christian Haynes at par in the 62nd pick, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Brenden Rice in No. 93 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Zak Zinter at pick No. 113 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Elijah Jones in pick 130. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They reached into another round for Trente Jones, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
Drake Nugent in the Round 6 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A big swing on Taulia Tagovailoa at slot 198, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Frank Gore Jr. slid further than he should have, and No. 241 is lovely value for the running back. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
