Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Dolphins spent pick No. 198 on Taulia Tagovailoa, a name the board had a full 89 spots lower. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The McGlothern steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 30th overall pick they get a cornerstone up front. A real need, handled.
Braden Fiske in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A straight-up fair deal on Devontez Walker at pick No. 62, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They read the board right and Malachi Corley was the payoff at slot 64. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A real head-scratcher, Sataoa Laumea in No. 95 is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Nothing to complain about; Brennan Jackson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Circle this one: Dwight McGlothern at the 184th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Value said wait; Taulia Tagovailoa in No. 198 says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
By-the-book stuff, Frank Gore Jr. at pick No. 226 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Nathan Thomas at slot 243 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It fills a real need, too.
