Good, not great, for the Cowboys: B-.

Everything else got attention, and cornerback got none. That is a strange way for the Cowboys to leave a draft. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

They will need Jefferson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.24 · Pick 24 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 28
In pick No. 24 they get a blindside protector. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · Jonathon Brooks · RB · rank 65
A premium they did not need to pay, Jonathon Brooks a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 82
Cooper Beebe at No. 87 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.24 · Pick 124 · Tommy Eichenberg · LB · rank 133
They paid a round early for Tommy Eichenberg in the 124th pick, more than the board wanted. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.38 · Pick 174 · Jordan Jefferson · DT · rank 194
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jordan Jefferson in the 174th overall pick, miles early. The roster fit checks out.
R6.37 · Pick 212 · Sam Hartman · QB · rank 231
A big swing on Sam Hartman at slot 212, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Joshua Cephus · WR · rank 262
Joshua Cephus at Round 7, Pick 25 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
