Start where it matters. The Vikings took J.J. McCarthy to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
The Gore Jr. reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. However the rest shakes out, Proctor at that price is a win they earned.
The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 11 they get their guy under center for the next decade, though the board says they badly overpaid. The biggest hole, addressed.
Kris Jenkins at the 42nd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid sticker price for Cooper Beebe in pick 69, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Andru Phillips in No. 122 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Tommy Eichenberg at the 130th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Walter Rouse this early at the Round 5 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Value said wait; Zion Tupuola-Fetui in slot 166 says they were not listening. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They took Khristian Boyd at par in Round 6, Pick 4, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They reached a country mile for Frank Gore Jr. at pick No. 190, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Josh Proctor in pick 237 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
