The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Vikings spent their marquee pick on J.J. McCarthy, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
However the rest shakes out, Murphy at that price is a win they earned. The Keegan reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The safety spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 14 they get a franchise quarterback, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on T'Vondre Sweat at pick 42, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
A tidy bit of business in Round 3, Pick 35, where Khyree Jackson graded well above the range. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Cedric Gray at the 109th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They reached into another round for Trevor Keegan, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reach for Luke McCaffrey in the Round 5 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A quiet steal in the 166th pick: Dylan Laube for less than the market said. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Taking Justin Eboigbe in pick No. 179 is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They will replay Grayson Murphy at No. 190 for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
